Socks and Heels: Ugly Betty Fashion

knee socks heels Have you watched the popular Ugly Betty series lately? Betty Suarez, the main character (played by actress America Ferrera), is the progenitor of the recently-coined “Ugly Betty Fashion.” This trend involves vivid mix-and-match outfits, quaint colorful dresses, and brightly-hued socks worn with heels.

Pairing socks with heels – and pulling it off

Not everyone might be able to pull off the look as good as our dear Betty Suarez. But, as they say, if there’s a will, then there’s always a way.

Red platform lace-up shoes look oh-so-hot with grey socks – it’s like you’re walking on fire!

  • Choose your poison. What color of socks would you want to wear? If you’re too scared to go ala-Betty, try more somber hues like brown or grey. If you’re willing to wander out of your comfort zone, try dark shades of stronger colors.
  • Longer equals leaner. How long are your socks of choice, knee-high or mid-calf? Remember that the higher you go, the longer your legs will look. Save the ankle and mid-calf socks for those with gangly legs.
  • Make your pick: clunky shoes or sexy stilettos? Depending on what look you want, you can wear either. If you want to do a fashion-forward but sophisticated look, stick to streamlined heels that define your legs. If stilettos bore you, start a trend by wearing socks with cut-out shoes.
  • Tone it down with straightforward pieces. A plain oversized tank top worn with a short skirt will balance the look. Put on a cropped jacket to add élan to your attire.

Because socks worn with heels makes quite a statement, make sure that everything else you wear takes a back seat. See? It’s not that hard to update your look with a new and arguably eccentric trend.
